Dr. Yifeng Cui is the founding Director of HPGeoC, and an adjunct professor at San Diego State University. He has general research interests in high performance computing, with expertise in parallelization, optimization, and performance evaluation on both massively parallel and vector machines. He is also currently a director of Intel Parallel Computing Center at SDSC. Cui earned his Ph.D. in hydrology from the University of Freiburg, Germany.
Alexander’s research identifies and develops software and algorithms, capable of solving today's and tomorrow's challenges in computational science and engineering. His work covers the involved disciplines from the bare metal of computer architectures to fully automated production workflows by including modeling and simulation, high performance computing, software engineering, data analytics, and verification and validation. Alexander holds a doctoral degree from the Technical University of Munich.
Amit Chourasia is lead of Visualization Services at SDSC. His work centers around the development and application of software tools that allow simulation of massively large data sets produced by scientific and engineering applications. His academic research is in animation, computer graphics, and visualization. He holds a Baccalaureate degree in architecture and a Master's degree in Computers Graphics Technology.
Dawei Mu Ph.D., is a computational geophysicist, with years of heterogeneous computation programming experience. He received his Ph.D from University of Wyoming in 2015 and worked on many projects like developing paralleled, GPU-enabled software with Discontinuous Galerkin method program, joint seismic/EM inversion program and discontinuous mesh adapted Finite Difference method program. His research interest is focused on developing high performance scientific software with hybrid computational environment.
Dmitry Pekurovsky Ph.D., is a senior computational scientist with training in Theoretical/Computational High Energy Physics and many years of experience in High Performance Computing. He has worked on a number of projects in diverse areas such as Lattice QCD, Bioinformatics, Turbulence and Oceanography. He is the author of numerical library P3DFFT http://www.p3dfft.net. His interests include code optimization, performance evaluation, open source software, numerical libraries and enabling large-scale simulations.
Danning Wang, Visiting Scholar
Danning Wang is a visiting scholar from The Second Monitoring and Application Center, China Earthquake Administration (CEA), who received his Master’s Degree in Solid Geophysics from Institute of Earthquake, China Earthquake Administration (CEA ) in 2014 and Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the Xi’an University of Technology in 2003. His research interest is focused on heterogeneous high-performance computing and seismic wave simulation.
Jared Bryan is an undergraduate Physics and Geology student at Utah State University, currently interning with Alexander Breuer at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. His internship is part of the Southern California Earthquake Center Summer of Undergraduate Research Experience (SCEC-SURE). His project is focussed on using deep learning to locate fault ruptures in topographically and geologically realistic domains.
David Lenz is a PhD student in the Department of Mathematics and member of the Computational Science, Mathematics, and Engineering (CSME) Program at UCSD. His current research interests are in finite element methods for time-dependent PDEs, with an emphasis on parallel-in-time methods.
Justin Zhang is a high school student attending Canyon Crest Academy. His research studies the accuracy of lowered precision computations. Specifically, Justin focuses on small, dense or sparse matrix multiplication and it's relation to the optimization of high-performance computing.
